LOVEworks Sign

From the Gloucester-Mathews Gazette-Journal:

Gloucester’s new LOVEworks sign, located on the gazebo lawn at Sanders Riverside Active Living Community, just off Main Street, was dedicated last Thursday, June 12, a day known as Loving Day, marking the day of the 1967 Supreme Court decision Loving v. Virginia—a ruling that struck down bans on interracial marriage in Virginia and 15 other states, affirming the fundamental right to love and marry freely. The event was made possible by The Cook Foundation, with Barbara Weldon and Sanders Retirement Village hosting the installation. “The LOVE sign will serve as a permanent landmark—a joyful and interactive space for photos, creativity, and community pride,” said Cook Foundation executive director Elizabeth Blackney.

Those taking part in the dedication included, from left, Mary Burgess of Riverside/Sanders; Hunter LeClair of Gloucester Parks, Recreation and Tourism; Riverside/Sanders Director of Facilities Jerry Foster; Dr. Kate Swanson of Arts on Main; Blackney; Laura Messer of the Virginia Tourism Corporation; Elianna Tirado of Gloucester Main Street; Cindy Jenkins of Riverside Walter Reed Hospital and the Gloucester Main Street Board of Directors; Dr. David Brown, co-director of the Fairfield Foundation and member of the Gloucester Main Street Board of Directors; Dr. Adrianne Ryder Cook Joseph, founder of both the Cook Foundation and Gloucester Main Street; Susan Ammons of Gloucester PRT and the Gloucester Main Street Board of Directors; Blair Pausic of Gloucester Main Street, and Angie Oliver of Riverside/Sanders.
