Gloucester Arts Festival 2020 Cancelled Amid Novel Coronavirus COVID-19
Following guidance from federal, state and local officials, including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Virginia Department of Health, the 2020 Gloucester Arts Festival will be cancelled for June 2020 and will return in 2021, steering committee leadership of the annual event announced today.
The cancellation will include the previously planned juried art show, annual Symphony Under the Stars community concert with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, live stage performances, U.S. Fleet Forces Band concert, Artisan Market, Heart of the River Studio Tour, and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Artmobile.
“We recognize that this is a tough time for our communities in so many ways and that it’s in moments like these that many of us want to turn to art for hope and inspiration,” said Lynne Manning, Chair of the Gloucester Arts Festival. “It was a tough decision to decide to cancel this year’s event, but an important one for us to make to do our part to help slow the spread of novel coronavirus COVID-19 throughout our communities.”
The Gloucester Arts Festival steering committee plans to meet virtually over the coming weeks to identify ways it can continue to bring art to the community throughout the year, supporting local artists, artisans and the economic health of the region.
“We are confident that as a community we will get through this time,” Manning said. “We will find ways to celebrate the beauty that is all around us and help each other heal.”
