January GMSA Board Member Spotlight

The Gloucester Main Street Association Board of Directors do so much behind the scenes that we’d like to shine a spotlight on each one! Each are passionate, dedicated and committed individuals that care about their community and dream big! They lead the way by guiding programs, increasing awareness, supporting fundraising efforts, serving on committees, volunteering at events and problem solving, all while celebrating our wins!

January’s spotlight shines on: Samantha Smith, owner of Split Enz Salon.

Sam (as she is affectionately referred to by many) oddly enough, never saw herself owning her own salon! As a Gloucester native, she began her career as a cosmetology graduate of Gloucester High School then went on to receive her instructor license. She believes continuing education is key and has received and attended certifications and trainings all over the world. With the passion she has for her career field, the love she holds for her community and the support of her late husband Ian and daughter Savannah– she ate her words! Believing that the best suited location would be on Main Street in our historic Gloucester Village, she began her journey with Split Enz Salon which since 2013 has exponentially grown with no end in sight!

Split Enz Salon is a full service salon open 6 days a week. Under Sam’s guidance, the team is dedicated to the highest quality of customer service and takes each unique individual to consult and customize, known as the TOTAL LOOK approach….blending art, science, and beauty for each client.

Not only has Sam’s professional life grown but also her personal as her family has expanded to now include her husband, Eric and his three children. Oh, and did we mention she has some adorable fur babies?! Since Sam and Eric are also residents of our Downtown, you can catch her walking to work in the warmer months or taking a jog along Main Street. Other hobbies she enjoys are hiking, yoga and cooking—a FUN FACT about Sam is that if she happens to be cooking while watching the tv show “CHOPPED” when the countdown starts, Sam starts working faster!

She leads by example and not only volunteers at events but also encourages her team, family and friends to lend a hand — side note: many great GMSA events have even taken place at Split Enz Salon.

Each GMSA Board of Directors commitment is for three years per term, serving no more than two terms consecutively. Sam has served since 2015 on the GMSA Board, so it is on a sad note that we announce she is now in her final year of serving. We have no doubt that she will continue to support and volunteer as able. THANK YOU Sam for your wisdom, perspective and passion in regards to the vibrancy of our Main Street.
