Improvements made to individual commercial properties enhance the entire Main Street business district, building upon the investments already made in the Village’s streetscape. The vision of this program is a vibrant, revitalized, visually-appealing downtown with historic structures that have been preserved and adapted to modern-day usage. To apply, click here to download the application or email director@mspt.org to receive the materials directly.

For facade enhancements, matching grants are available up to $20,000, dollar to dollar. Eligible projects include, but not limited to, painting and siding, brick maintenance, repair or replacement of exterior windows and doors, new or replacement awnings and exterior lighting, new or replacement commercial signage, landscaping, improvements to steps, parking, and more.

For interior improvements, matching grants are available up to $10,000, dollar to dollar. Eligible projects include, but are not limited to, restoration of interior features, plumbing, HVAC, flooring, lighting fixtures, painting, safety upgrades, and more.

All applications are asked to be in compliance with the Gloucester Village Main Street Design Guidelines, which uplift the National Park Service’s Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties and more. The design guidelines can be found at this link.

“Main Street Preservation Trust is proud to match and leverage the investments made by downtown business and building owners focused on supporting a vibrant downtown community. Preserving our charming historic properties and designing an attractive commercial district are just two priorities for the Trust, both of which contribute to a robust economic environment for small businesses to thrive,” said Cristie Thomas, Executive Director of Main Street Preservation Trust.

Thomas continued, “We encourage business and building owners on Main Street from Courthouse Square to the Main Street Center to apply for funds that support their property enhancement and business development goals. Thanks to the generosity of our Board of Trustees, this year’s allocation is $80,000 toward this year’s grant program.”
